  • What is the cost-effectiveness for specialist clothing compared to normal care of children with moderate to severe eczema?

Lead Investigator: Dr Kim Thomas, Nottingham

Intervention:  Use of specialist clothing such as Dermasilk® and Comfifast® and compare with normal treatment over six months.

Interventions:  Psychological therapies delivered by Graduate Mental Health Workers.
Outcomes: To be decided
Justification for the trial:

There are currently no RCTs assessing the usefulness of such therapies in the treatment of alopecia.

Interventions:  Oral spironolactone + topical vehicle vs oral placebo + topical minoxidil.
Outcomes: Hair density - terminal hairs/unit area and global photographic assessment.
Justification for the trial:

Antiandrogens are widely used to treat this condition but no good RCT evidence of efficacy. 

 Status: Initial approval from Trial Generation & Prioritisation Panel.  To be presented to UKDCTN Steering Committee in 2010.  For further information about this research idea please contact Margaret McPhee.

Interventions:  Comparing antipsychotic drugs
Outcomes: To be decided
Justification for the trial:

There are currently no RCTs evaluating the treatment of delusional parasitosis
