Death of UK DCTN member Dr Ibrahim Nasr

Message from Hywel Williams

It is with sadness that I need to tell you that a great supporter of the UK DCTN, Dr. Ibrahim Nasr, has died. Ibrahim played a very important part in the formation of the UK DCTN. As a busy consultant dermatologists interested in improving patient care through independent research into drugs and therapeutics, he immediately identified with the vision of the UK DCTN to create a democratic network that would embrace and develop suggestions from those working on the “coal face” in clinical care i.e. he “got it”.

Ibrahim was a member of the UK DCTN Steering Group until 2012 and also chaired our Trials Generation and Prioritisation Panel from 2008 until 2012, a role which nicely complimented his work on the BAD Therapy & Guidelines sub-committee (2010-2014). Ibrahim was also a co-author on our first PATCH study on penicillin for prevention of recurrent cellulitis published in the NEJM and also the BLISTER trial of doxycycline for pemphigoid, published in the Lancet. We remember Ibrahim as a kind, gentle, thoughtful man who was always willing to roll up his sleeves and contribute to the greater good. He was a joy to work with and his contribution to building our network will never be forgotten. Our sympathies go to his family and all who knew him.
