Professor Hywel Williams

OBE for Professor Hywel Williams

We are delighted to let you know that UK DCTN founder and Chair, Professor Hywel Williams has been awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the recent Queen’s birthday honours list for services to higher education and medical research. This is in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of dermatology along with his service to the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), both as former Director of the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme and in recognition of his contribution to the pandemic in helping to manage the NIHR Covid-19 research response which ensured that effective treatments reached NHS patients in record time.

Hywel said “This was a bit of a surprise, but on reflection, a rather nice recognition of the sort of collaborative work that we have done together in the UK DCTN and NIHR. I have been blessed with such wonderful colleagues over the years - including patients and the public. Team Science at its best”

Hywel Williams is Professor of Dermato-Epidemiology, Co-Director of the Centre of Evidence-Based Dermatology and honorary consultant paediatric dermatologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, and founder of Cochrane Skin
