New skin cancer study awarded funding

SCC-AFTER –high-risk cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma study funded

This study will look at whether adding a course of radiotherapy following surgery in ‘high-risk’ squamous cell carcinoma patients will help prevent local recurrence.  This will be a large study led by Dr Agata Rembiela and Prof Catherine Harwood, and aims to recruit 840 patients over 4 years from 25 sites across the UK. SCC-AFTER will compare a course of radiotherapy and active monitoring following surgery with active monitoring alone following surgery. The funding includes a qualitative component and the study will also consider inclusivity; if effective the use of adjuvant radiotherapy will be incorporated into NHS Treatment pathways.

This study will be funded by the NIHR Health Technology Assessment fund (researcher led scheme).
